New 2.86 option BC and BCL

Post by tas3086 »

A few questions about the new options.......

The /BCL:n option states:
Default if omitted: When /bc (BackwardsCompatible) is used, Image for DOS will create the backup using the 2.50 TBI file version.
The /BC:n Option states:
Default if omitted: Image for DOS uses the current TBI format.

I assume that the if the (BCL) option itself is not used (omitted) that the backup will be created at the 2.86 level, and that only if the /BC option is used, AND an /BCL option value is not given, that the backup will be created at the 2.50 level. BCL is used to fine tune a /BC specification. Otherwise, do I have to add /BCL:286 to make a current level backup? I think that I understand what your are trying to do, but /BC/BCL interaction could be clearer.
---- AND ----
-- Are there any implications if I have a base and incremental's created with a lower level (pre 2.86) and then continue to create incremental's with a newer version (2.86)?

-- Will a COMBINE get all these different versions back into a current compatible level?

/BC is what controls if it will create an older level. /BCL controls what
that level will be.

yes, combine should be able to move it forward.
