USB Keyboard problem

Post by normfowler »

I have just installed a new motherboard Asus P8Z68-V which does not have a PS2 connection for the keyboard or mouse and I have to use USB. The problem is that when in the UI for BootIt Bare Metal the highlighted line moves about every 3 to 4 seconds and I have to keep tabbing back to make an entry. After a while this gets very irritating and I have not been able to figure out anyway to stop this behavior. The keyboard seems to be fine in both the bios and OS, the problem seems to only occur in BootIt. Does anyone have any suggestions on solving this problem? I have also asked this question in the motherboard forum, but have not received any answers yet.

Thanks,
Norm

Hi Norm,

I had a similar problem in many programs, and it all came down to my
joystick not being centred. It was acting like the arrow keys when
off-centre. Does this apply to your case?

Hope this helps. It's all I can think of.

Hi,

Thanks for the information, but this does not apply in my case, as I do not have a game controller attached. :-)

I am pretty sure it has something to do with the bios seeing two keyboards when I only have one.

Thanks,
Norm

Further information, I removed the Logitech receiver and I only using the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard. The bios now shows only 1 keyboard and 1 mouse, but I still have the same problem in the BootIt BM UI. The mouse pointer and tab focus moves about every 3 seconds and I have to keep moving it back and try to type very fast to finish an entry before it moves again. This is very difficult to do and gets very frustrating after a while. Does anyone else have any idea of how I can fix this.

Thanks,
Norm

try disabling mouse support all together in BIBM then the driver won't be
active and the BIOS not sending data.

I looked through the settings in BootIt BM, but did not find anywhere to disable mouse support. Can you tell me where that is?

When you create the disk via makedisk (then reinstall) (or you can edit
tbosboot.str in the BIBM partition and remove mouse.com)

I made a new disk with no mouse support and reinstalled BootIt BM, but I not only had no mouse I also did not have a keyboard. I assume since they are both coming through the same usb connection disabling the mouse also disabled the keyboard. Any other suggestions?

Normfowler,

> Any other suggestions?

Try different video settings in BiBM.

VESA -or- Chipset, then go through various Video Modes too.

If none of that or previous suggestions fix your issue, then I'd say
BiBM isn't quite ready for UEFI (which replaces the ages old BIOS).

Btw, your;
"P8Z68-V
Your dream Z68 motherboard, with full support for 3X faster video
conversion and universal switchable graphics."

Very, very nice MoBo!!!

It has nothing to do with UEFI (oh the marketing). It requires the basic
and simple BIOS keyboard interface to work. The mouse driver shouldn't
affect keyboard, ensure legacy/USB keyboard support is enabled in the BIOS,
do a cold power cycle. This is a normal USB keyboard correct?
