Screen boots to black (no cursor or mouse appears)

Post by CaptainKen »

Using BIBM v1.16 installed on hard drive on HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 laptop. Screen boots to black (no cursor or mouse appears) when selecting Restart within Win7. However, boots fine from power down.

If I had to guess I'd say it might be conflicting with HP's built-in custom boot partition?

Please advise.

Have you updated to the latest bios?

If you don't get a post, the system is probably hanging on warm reboot.
Once past the post, if you don't get any EMBRI or EMBRM or please wait..
then the system hard drive with BootIt is not being booted. If you get
those, but then it won't go, it's probably video related, you may want to
try a different mode or resolution to see if it's handled better.

Yes, it is hanging on warm reboot and ONLY when BIBM is actually installed on hard drive. The only that that appears is "press the ESC key for startup menu". It can't be a windows video setting related because it doesn't happen in windows or on cold boot or if BIBM is not on hard drive.

To be clear what is happening when BIBM is install on HD, here is a link to a quick video:

How do I address the hang that only happens when BIBM is installed on HD? Shall I assume it's a boot menu setting or something and how do I fix it please?

That message comes from the BIOS - after which it should start booting from
the HD MBR - at that point you'd see the BootIt EMBRI 2.xx message. The
fact that you don't get that suggests the BIOS isn't booting the MBR of the
HD. You may want to disable quick boot in your BIOS, also you can press ESC
to get the menu and choose to boot the HD and see what happens.

Thank you for replying.

Pressing Esc displays the HP boot menu. Then pressing Enter to Continue gives the black screen again. However, if instead of Enter to continue I press F10 for Bios, then when I leave BIOS it boots normally into BIBm and beyond.

Could not find option for quick boot or related in BIOS.

It's related to the system, not the software because it's either not booting
the software or the BIOS interface to write to the screen is not working
(you can tell because the first thing it does when the mbr is booted is to
output text "BootIt EMBRI 2.xx"). So you need to figure out if disabling
something like quick boot will help fix it. The HP docs should have
something about it, or at least report it so they can reproduce and fix.
Something else you can try is reboot, when at the message or screen,
use ctrl-alt-del and see if that warm boot lets it in.

Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't allow for warm boot.

The manual is here, but there is no mention of quick boot feature.

A Google search on quick boot for this model turned up nothing.
