Network detection issue

Post by DrTeeth »

I have a netbook that is connected to my network. I use both the
wireless and ethernet connections and both work 110% *except* with
Image for Windows.

IfW will only see my network if I connect using the wireless. I have
changed cables and updated my network card drivers and am stumped. I
cannot see how IfW cannot use my network when every other program can.
The netbook is next to the wireless router and I validate but it is
slower than ethernet.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Well it was working before with the wireless. Now I cannot see my
network at all with IfW.

when it shows up in network neighborhood it will show up in IFW. It asks
windows for the list. If you want to know all the various Windows networking
issues, research master browser.

.... and of course you can always just type in the UNC even if the machine is
not in the browser list.

There is no 'network neighbourhood' in windows 7. Could you please
specify where you mean*? I can browse *all* my network shares when
this issue is active and the only way to 'fix' it is to reboot my main
PC.

* I need this to check this out and provide a screen cast to clarify
what I mean. The next time this issue raises its head I will post a
link here.

I will look at those links but must stress that the destination disc
was visible on the network and the network was fully functional apart
from the IfW glitch. I could copy to and read from the destination PC
and disc and do the same in the opposite direction.

I will past the link to a screen cast the next time it happens.

I don't know whether it is coincidence or not, but I do not seem to be
getting this issue when I use the x64 version of IfW. Both the PC
being backed up and the destination PC are both running Win 7 x64.

Sorry to bump, but I DO get the issue using the 32-bit IfW backing up
to a win x64 PC. I do NOT seem to get the issue when using IfW x64
backing up to the same x64 PC. A reboot of the x64 PC is required to
fix this.
