Newsgroups in Windows 8

Post by Ed Smith »

Does anyone know how to get these newsgroups in Windows 8 ?

In Windows 7 I had them in "Windows Live Mail".

I don't know if I need to download "Windows Live Mail" again or not.

I see in Windows 8 I can do my mail but I don't see how to get newsgroups.

Thanks,
Ed.

you can either use the web forums or you'll need to get a newsreader to use
the newsreader interface.

OK, Thanks. I will try and see if Windows Live Mail will download and
install in Windows 8.
I preferred that when using Windows 7 over the web forums.

If it don't work, I will use the web forums.

Thanks Again,
Ed.

I still use Thunderbird 17 for the Newsgroups in Win 7.
I also got Lightning and use the calendar regularly.

Mozbackup allows backing up your Thunderbird (as well as
Firefox) settings easily.

Don't know how either will work in Win 8.

FYI, Thunderbird versions 15 & 16 both had problems with
filters that assign where email is delivered. That seems to
have been resolved in TB 17, though.

If you still have WLM in your Windows 7, then see this link for how to export your mail, etc.
http://liveunplugged.wordpress.com/2008 ... -messages/

To download WLM, go here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... x?id=29224

You can read newsgroups in WLM, but I don't think you can create or reply to terebyte groups in WLM.
If that's not correct, someone please let me know.

Thanks for the info. I downloaded and installed WLM 2011.
I haven't exported yet from Windows 7.

I set up Terabyte Unlimited news.
I can't seem to get all the past messages (archived).
I only get a couple hundred and it shows like 800 more and I right click on
the
newsgroup and on catch up but it seems to just mark them read and not
download
the rest of them.

I have it set to download 1000 messages.

I will just do the export like you said but at least I see I can use Windows
Live
in Windows 8.

Thanks to All,
Ed.

It is a shame that it is no longer being developed; only security
updates from now on.

I do not plan on stopping using Thunderbird until I have to.
It fits my needs/wants pretty well for now.

Mozbackup also allows me to easily keep my backup laptop up
to date with the latest file.

Unless some other program can meet that, TB it is.
