Potiential Windows 8 fast boot issue workaround

Post by Milmoor »

Thinking about going multi boot with Windows 8, but was checking out potential issues first. It seems fast boot is a current issue. Multi booting works fine as long as fast boot is disabled, and fast boot works just fine if you don't multi boot. Fast boot is hibernating is disguise with some twists. This got me thinking: what if BootIt BM would delete the hibernate file when an other boot option was selected? Windows 8 would probably start normally since there is no hibernate file to load, bypassing any issues because of changes on a partition by another OS. A possible issue would be that Windows 8 would detect it shutdown wasn't activated properly. This is all dry swimming since I haven't tested it yet. I'll check it by deleting the hibernate file by hand from another partition later this week.

"and fast boot works just fine if you don't multi boot".

Not true, any time you alter any of your partitions visible to Windows after
shutting down when fast boot is enabled (or generally when hibernated) will
cause corruption, including any repair disks, etc..

It's easier and better to just disable fast boot, it doesn't save much time
anyway, and it's easy to disable, just click the button to disable in it
BootIt Partition Work / Properties of the Win8 partition. Just going
through and removing hibernation isn't a reliable thing, you don't just want
to do it and search for it, but if you tried to only do would would be a
good time, there are too many potential combinations and you don't know what
is what or when it occurred, what was available, etc..

Can I just go back to BootIt NG and leave fast start enabled?
