Anyone seen this before?
Every so often - I pop into the IFW Gui and click Check for updates...today I see this:
I even did the upgrade from 4.03 to 4.04 and this still persists. No connectivity issues on the source machine that I am aware of?
What else can I check?
NR

That will absolutely happen if the website could not be contacted. This could either be a local outward firewall the blocked the IFW application or could have been something up on the internet or website maintenance / reboot.

Just did an extensive firewall check and could not see anything out of the ordinary. This install is only two weeks old and is essentially brand new. This check for updates button did not work even immediately following this install. I encountered it for the first time just a day or two after the installation but actually though it may be a website issue and only returned to it yesterday. When it occurred again and agin - on demand - it is now an issue.TeraByte Support wrote: Sun Mar 02, 2025 9:55 pm That will absolutely happen if the website could not be contacted. Furthermore - several other apps on this machine - which also feature the same basic "check" for updates - where they reach back to their respective websites - are not having any problems getting to the Internet.
Even your app - installed on another box here - works fine. This is an issue with this specific install and this instance of IFW.

it can't contact the website, if other machines on the same network can, then probably a firewall issue of some sort.

Hmm - I think you are misunderstanding - these other apps ARE on the same box as IFW and they all work fine.TeraByte Support wrote: Mon Mar 03, 2025 5:10 pmit can't contact the website, if other machines on the same network can, then probably a firewall issue of some sort.
There are no specifics in the local Win Firewall for your app - matter of fact there is no references/additions/updates for any other retail app in the firewall on this box either and I have SyncBack Pro on here, KeyMetrics FolderSizes, AIDA64 and a host of others - all with Check for Updates function - and all work as designed - except yours. How do you square that?
I have never ever needed to configure the firewall for any app on Windows Server and have been using IFW for over a half dozen years.

Yep and works on my other brand new Win Server 2022 build and I have compared firewalls line by line and cannot see any differences.
And the box is this failing was updated from v4.03 to 4.04 yesterday and still fails. Was failing on 4.03 as well.
Something else is definitely going on here - with just this app.

It's probably a local firewall, but you can try using a packet sniffer. Of course ensure you can access the website as well.

Have done all the analysis and can access the website with no issue from this machine. It has nothing to do with the firewall for certain.TeraByte Support wrote: Mon Mar 03, 2025 9:24 pm It's probably a local firewall, but you can try using a packet sniffer. I will keep digging but there is something else going on here. You could do me a solid and find out (from the code) what exactly triggers that error message because what I am seeing makes no sense whatsoever. No application - except this one - is acting up.
Does IFW write logs or do anything meaningful at all for troubleshooting? I see it does zero for Event Viewer - error or no error.
Anything would be helpful.

It's simple, if it can't access the website to get the data, you get that message. Maybe run sfc /scannow to see if something missing from windows.
