Ask about TeraByte Unlimited's software features and experience

Post by devilishthanks »

Hi everyone!!!

I'm looking into TeraByte Unlimited's data backup and recovery software, especially the Image for Windows product. Has anyone used this software and can share their experience or review? I'd like to know how stable the software is, how easy it is to use, and if there are any outstanding features compared to other products on the market.

Thanks a lot!

I don't know about other products, but I've bee using Image for Windows (and Image for Linux) for a long time.

Like everything, you have to get used to it. but once you do it's quite easy to use.

Image for Linux doesn't imply needing to run Linux. It is, or at least can be, completely self contained and can be used to restore an image (backup) of a Windows system to the Windows system. This is also true of Image for DOS, but Image for Linux is almost always faster.

I've been using Terabyte Utilities for many years. I've done thousands of backups and restores, with only 1 faulty operation, that was corrected by support within 24 hours. I tried other products, unfortunately, backup restore functions failed many times, and eventually drove me to TerabyteUnlimited.

One of the benefits of image for windows, is that you can backup the Windows system that you are running Image on. Linux and DOS, require booting from a separate operating system. In all cases, the backup file can not be located on any partition that is being backed up. Yes, Linux backup is faster, but Windows and Linux operations can be easily automated to do consistent operations without any human intervention. Using the BUI/BootIT products, you can even automate booting multiple operating systems, and returning back to your origin.

You will find that SUPPORT is excellent here. Not only from the TeraByte Team, but from your fellow users as well. Browse through the years of questions, recommendations, and solutions. The only problem with the product, it that the return code/error numbers are not documented in the manuals, and you have to ask this forum what error ### means, or search through log files to find the potential culprit.

Been a user for many years (Image for Windows, Image for Linux) and no issues.

It does not have a separate function to do file and folder backups only, which I consider essential for things like User Profiles, Drivers, MS Edge profiles.

I use Robocopy to get around that.

But you can mount the backup file and copy those things out of it, right?

Not as efficient, or convenient.
