Can you check the plugin's log and see what it shows at that point? If you don't want to browse to it in File Explorer, you can enable Developer Mode so the build will pause and let you open the log directly. It would be either an incorrect architecture or it didn't find the installation.

Yes. I have the trial version of 2.03a installed.

Ok. I was able to get the wim to build. I uninstalled everything, IFW, WinREbuilder, PartWork, and then reinstalled everything. Before I had just installed over the top, but this seems to have worked. I got the RE to build successfully. However, I am not able to try Partwork in the RE. It's a trial and I cannot activate the trial in the RE. I get the same error when I try that I always get in the RE builds.

what windows version are you building for the boot media? what version is the rstrtmgr.dll on your boot media?

As far as rstrtmgr.dll, there is not one present in the resulting boot.wim.

Is there a reason you're using a Windows 10 RE source and one that old (from 2019) on Windows 11? I haven't tested that combination, but it could be just too big of a mis-match between the versions since that .dll is copied into the build for the trial version. Generally, it's best to use the same Windows version and keep the build versions close.

Am I using an old version I didn't think I was. I just extracted a winre.wim from a just-now-downloaded official Windows 11 iso, and both show 10.x; 10.0.18362.1 versus 10.0.22621.2494. Either one works just fine. However, the older one is smaller and seems to function just fine except that it gives the error popup whereas the newer one does not. The newer one is about 215MB larger. Curious as to what changed.

In any event, I just purchased the bootit collection v2 upgrade. I rebuilt RE with partwork for Windows, and it seems to be working perfectly!

Do I have to use the extracted WinRE.wim every time I rebuild the RE, or now that I've rebuilt it once can I just use the boot.wim as my new source?

The WinRE WIM has grown larger over the years as Microsoft has added support for newer hardware and features to it. Both Windows 10 and 11 use 10.x (any build >= 22000 is Windows 11).

I usually prefer to use a "clean" WinRE source when possible, but normally there shouldn't be any issues using the new boot.wim. However, in that case you're still specifying a user selected WIM so why not use the clean one?

Is there an issue using the installed WinRE for the source? It's usually updated with Windows and stays current automatically.

I have noticed that when I use a "clean" WinRE.wim file, with the needed reagentc /enable to have it be recognized, I get a "unmountable boot volume" error on every tbwinre-built boot.wim I created. So I just don't use that method. Without it there are no errors. I just have to manually select the same winre.win as my source, rather than having it be auto-selected. I don't know why, but that works for me whereas the "clean" version does not, even though use the same .win file.
