Fragmentation

Post by mjnelson99 »

I have been putting numerous images (IFW) on my D partition.

I recently did an analyze with a defrag program and it is
almost all red - meaning fragmented.

I remember reading that defragging movie files can mess them up.

Will defragging mess up the images that are there? I have
8-10 files now.

Plus there were other files that were fragmented.

It's quite scary isn't it LOL? It is not significant and will take
HOURS to defrag...not worth the hassle IMHO.

Film files are not seen as anything special to a defrag program. If it
will ruin one type of file it will ruin another and the program will
not be fit for purpose. I have never had *any* corrupt file of any
type after using a defragger for years. But we all backup here anyway
;-)?

No.

I also backed up to SD card earlier today in case I decide
to go ahead & defrag. It can take all the time it wants to.
Thanks

I did defrag the D: partition and it took several hours.
That was not a problem for me.

Afterwards I validated a few of my images that were stored
there and they all came out okay. I also played a few mp4
and mp3 files and they played fine.

A defragger that corrupted data would not exist for long.
