Folder Backup Option

Post by OldNavyGuy »

I'm wondering why IFW never had a Folder/File backup option similar to what others have.

I can see several use cases where a folder image restore would be preferred over a drive image restore (i.e. a User Profile, Microsoft Edge User Data).

You can extract files and folders from a backup using either TBIView or a mounted image.

Correct...you can.

However, you would need to manually copy those files to their original locations.

If you try to copy files back to a User Profile, several will fail.

Copying files back to the Edge User Data folder currently corrupts the Profile.

In both examples, a restore through WinPE does not.

You should check the exclude list in the .log that comes from VSS, could be some of those files (would be copied back as all zeros).

I use Phylock...but either way, it would be much more effective, and efficient time-wise to have a folder/file backup capability.
