How to automate backup space management

Post by Sand_Paper »

Hello, I want to use Image for Windows to backup 2 pc's (250GB Hd each) my idea is to trigger the backup event when the usb disk (2TB or more) where the backup has to be done is connected. Could you please give me more details on how the "simple operations mode" automaticaly manages the space? To make the operation the more "automated" possible is it better to use simple operations mode and do backups of the 2PC on the same partition of the USB disk? Or is it better to use simple operation mode but split the disk in 2 (same size) partitions, one for each PC backup set?
Or are there better options?

Thanks!

You can let the simple operations manage it - when it runs out of space, it deletes the oldest backup set (provided more than 1 exists).

I would consider adding the /maxdss option so that each system has its own max size it takes on the drive. /maxdss:1TiB for example.

By "delete the oldest backup set" you mean the full backup + all the differentials linked to it?

Thank you for the answer! I'll start doing some tests.
