Boot OS recovery with USB

Post by cromer »

Hi, I used IFD from many years ago and at the time one could create a bootable CD drive to recover Windows 95 as a whole, as in it allowed me to create a bootable recovery CD with the current Windows 95 OS (Blank), and when things go wrong, the user just need to pop in the CD, as long as the BIOS is set to boot from CD first, it will boot from CD and recover the OS .
Is this option available now with the later versions of IFD/IFW to allow this to work with a USB drive granted that most OS is over 20GB+ in size.

cromer,

Using optical media for backups/restores is no longer a popular choice. Most people will create a backup image on an internal or external drive and use a bootable USB flash drive to boot into IFW, IFL, IFU or IFD to do the restore.

But it is possible to do something similar to what you were doing with Win95. You can boot an IFL USB flash drive and it can automatically restore a backup image stored on the flash drive. You need to edit scriptslist.txt and create a tbs script to enable automation.

It's easier to restore an image as outlined in the first paragraph.
