IFW obscure files excluded from restore

Post by bsound »

Over many years and versions, I've found that my C: drive restores disappear an obscure data file, namely playlists for Foobar2000 media player.

Whenever I restore, my playlists are gone, but nothing else.

These files are stored in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\foobar2000\playlists-v1.4
have the extension .fpl and are typically named like A89F96D0A4F62306DDEB4A8810BF206E.fpl

I can see them in a mounted image, but on restore they do appear to be restored.

Any reason these to be excluded? They don't match anything in the reg key FilesNotToBackup

Thanks for any help.

See if you extract the file what it looks like with a hex editor. If all zeros, then it was caught up in some exclusion list, if data is there, it's restored because it's restoring sector level, not file level, also with a higher log level check the restore to see what was deleted (part of an exclusion list). Otherwise, maybe the files are cached and not on the drive or some feature of the program resets them.
