Change from Legacy to UEFI, not booting

Post by alt »

Lenovo Ideapad
BIOS option for Legacy or UEFI boot

Original Win10 installed in Legacy mode
BIBM installed
Win 10 installed
EFI & reserved partitions created
All worked

Want to change to UEFI
Change BIOS to boot UEFI
Uninstalled BIBM
Installed BUI
changed to GPT
would not boot
ran Fixboot.tbs, twice
still not boot

depending on which I choose, Legacy or UEFI boot in BIOS, I get:
1) BUI start but never continue/freeze
2) if boot with BUI flash, wants to reinstall, process completes, but BUI never seems to stay installed, does not boot into BUI.
3) get BIOS boot options menu, but none of the choices boot.

With BUI not installing I cannot access Bootedit.'
EFI shows the correct OS.
Obviously, I am missing something.
Is this fixable?

How does this differ from manually changing drive type in BUI? I did change to GPT.
The description from the link you sent is confusing to me. I am not sure if I even have the correct TBOSDT.
At install, is "OS Deployment Tool script" what I want? chose, "Click here if you have purchased this product and want to download the latest update."

If you're converting an drive with an OS on it, you'd use the script, it it's data only you can do the simple conversion with "change disk type" button.

Thank you.
What is the difference between changing drive vs changing data?
What does one do the other will not?

if you have a bootable drive you can't just change the type without having to fixup the OS to support it (which the script does). If it's just partitions without an OS booting then you can just convert the type.
