migrate Win7 1TB to 2TB failure

Post by hime3 »

Attempting to migrate 1TB Win 7Pro SSD to 2GB SSD.

Same failure result twice.
First used Image for DOS to copy 1TB to 2TB SSD. Failure.

Re-read Terabyte online forum articles and manual.

Made Image for Windows file, validated image when made, and during restoratoin validated before and after each partition restored to 2TB SSD .

Failure notification:
Partition reduction failed (0/1/15)
please run file system check

2TB would not boot: black screen
windows boot manager
windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem insert win install disk.
if do not have one contact computer mfgr for assistance
status: 0xc0000225

What might be responsible for the above?

Desktop delivered without Win7Pro installation disk.

The file system may have been dirty prior to backup, so resize will not be attempted. chkdsk /f all the partitions prior to the backup (including EFI system if that type of system) You'd also want to ensure you use the "update boot partition" option if available to ensure references to the new location are updated. Another potential issue is the BIOS interface, you could try Image for Linux or Image for Windows boot disk instead.
