Anything is possible, however, the RAID controller reports no errors, and no SMART warnings. We're not having any other issues with the box performing anything else, including defrag. The machine is on 24/7 with a reboot ever 2 days, so if a drive was failing, it would be pretty evident.

I get it. You want me to upgrade. How about I buy the upgrade then you tell me what the problem is that these codes are indicating? That way, you get your money and I get pointed in the right direction and hopefully solve the issue without having to install the upgrade and go through all the PE building?

You would need to actually use the new version. Other than chkdsk /f you'll want to upgrade, there are changes to the newer versions. It's easy to create the boot CD. If it's customized version, it's easier to do things in the latest version as well.

There are no drive errors per previous post. Chkdsk /f runs (I force it to) on every automated reboot every 2 days. Guess I'm just going to have to upgrade to get this fixed or support on it.

I upgraded to 3.53 and am still getting this error, which is making my backups unusable as open files are corrupted in the backup. OS is XP SP3. Chkdsk /f was run on this drive immediately before installing v3.53.

Here is the log file. Please provide a fix:

There is no phylock error listed like it couldn't talk to it.

There is nothing in UpperFilters other than phylock and PartMgr. VSS has never worked on any XP machine I've had with IFW.

Sorry, I dont understand what, "There is no phylock error listed like it couldn't talk to it." means.

Code: Select all

[08/14/2022 10:36:38 PM] You may need to reduce the cache size.
Which cache, specifically? I'm using disk caching, so I need to reduce from 4GB cache size? i.e. /pldcs:4095 should be decreased?

Assuming PHYlock uses the system disk for caching, if I specify /pldcs:4095, how much additional free space over 4GB must be available on the system disk over that amount, if any?

Please advise next steps to resolution. My backups must be usable. Thanks!

Post by Montclair »

I resolved this. I needed to decrease pldcs. I halved it to 2048 and Phylock got the lock as that drive didn't have enough free space to accommodate the initial requested disk cache size I was specifying with pldcs. Is there a command line option to tell Phylock to use a different disk for the cache other than the disk being backed up?

I guess our post crossed at exactly same time and phpbb didn't put mine up .. yes start with 1024 size and work from there, but then see https://www.terabyteunlimited.com/kb/kb ... ck-errors/ if you get a "PHYLock error: n" value.

Is there a command line option to tell Phylock to use a different disk for the cache other than the disk being backed up? In other words, can I tell the software where to create phylock.swp?
