How to boot from an EUFI original or clone Linux partition

Bruce, can you try this? Boot your IFL USB flash drive. Can you find the images after clicking Restore?

If you had a log with no errors then the image was created.

Will have a go at it now, and do it all from scratch = create images, check where they can and cannot be seen within Mint, then reboot into IFL on stick.

Crazy thought. Do you have Win10 Fast Startup enabled? Are you writing your images to an external HD or an internal partition?

Fast Start up definitely disabled.

Images being written to Data partition on internal ssd in laptop.

OK......the plot thickens
So I thought this should be a rock solid test:

- I did 2 images with IFL in Mint (on partition 9) of the same Mint partition (partition 5) onto my Data partition, placing one in D:/ and the second in D:/Downloads/
- I then went through the restore process only til I got to stored images.....and the 2 images were where I placed them.
- then I exited IFL.
- I then checked with Nemo (not as root) and I could not see either of them.
- I should have thought to open Nemo as root to see if that makes a diff, but only just thought of it.
- I opened a terminal (not as root) and could not see the image files either.
- I then reboot into BIU, and deleted the original Mint5 partition.
- I then rebooted into IFL on USB, and could see the two images, so decided to do a restore operation.
- To check the restore actually happened, I reboot back into BIU, and Mint5 was definitely restored.
- I then boot into Mint5 and it worked fine.

So that is definite proof the images exist.

Now after restoring Mint5 and booting into it, guess what.....Nemo is now showing both images in D drive!!!

So this is quite weird.
Anyway, at least I know now the images get created.

I presume there is a difference in the way IFL on USB, or IFU within BIU, make images.....well, at least the file type is in capital letters (.TBI)....and in IFL run from Mint, the file type is in lower case (.tbi).

Only thing left to do now is trial IFL on the other laptop. However, I it takes so long having to install x32 support files first, etc, etc.
and I am losing interest.

Though it would great to be able to do imaging and copying from within a Linux OS, and have all of that compatible with BIU.
Thiis would be quite a powerful partition management too box.

And another reason to clone OSs to the same or a different drive is so you can use the clone as an experimental OS that can be trashed, with no repercussions.
This should be defacto standard practise and knowledge among experienced users.....but so many just rely on backing up their system, then restoring if things screw up.

Images created by IFL, IFU, IFD and IFW are the same and can be restored by the other apps.

If you create an image in Mint IFL and call it win10 you will get win10.tbi
If you call it win10.TBI you will get win10.TBI

So the upper or lower case is unimportant. They both work.

yes I appreciate a *.tbi file is same internally whether upper or lower case.
however, it is the only point of difference between the tbi's I see and the ones I don't, at least until I did a restore operation in IFL from a stick.

I suppose another test I could do is create an image from IFL on a stick, and see whether that is visible within Mint.

Either way, I am sure Terabyte authors could sort it in 10 minutes.

Bruce, am I understanding you correctly? In Linux you can see *.TBI but not *.tbi?

if it's mounted you must use the mount point.
