IfL stange happenings

Post by DrTeeth »

Hi all,

Needed to do a restore today and booted into IfL and has some strange
goings on.

First, I could left-click with my mouse, which works perfectly in all
Linux distros, BUT a double-click would NOT register at all. I was
reduced to clicking and then pressing enter to progress.

Second, though I 99% of the time do manual restores, for some reason I
tried an automatic restore first and each time I tried it failed. The
manual restore succeeded.

I will just explain how my backup folders are organised so the setup
can be tested. I have just come back to here after describing the
folder layout. It looks a mess when describing it with words but is
very logical when seen in real life.

I have a folder called "backups". Under that folder are folders for
each computer backed up. There are four folders under that for each
computer.

For the computer in question, called "Tardis", there are three more
folders for different types of backups. Only one of those folders is
used for IfW/IfL.

So here we are J:\Backups\Tardis\Complete disk\. In the last folder is
placed a full backup. Off that are two folders, Backup 1 and Backup 2.
They each get filled with incrementals until the window of IfW is full
and then I change over to the other folder. After a few backups (one a
day) the other folder gets emptied.

Because of that, when creating a backup, I have to tell the imaging
program where the full backup is. In IfW, this is already filled in
from the first time I did it. When trying to do an automatic restore
in IfL, the path to the full backup was completed. But when trying to
progress the program said that it could not find it. I could not even
edit it or reselect it. A manual restore succeeded.

Hope your brains have survived this. I know mine has not ;-).

I do not recall exactly. All I can say is I used the identical options
for the manual as I did the automatic. They worked for the former and
not the latter. The latter only failed when the path to the full
backup was present and I could not edit it at all. Got a message that
the file could not be found.

The lack of double-clicking was more annoying ;-).

DrT,

Do you mean Automatic and Normal choices for the restore? Or are you using a script? I assume not.

Hi Brian,

No scripts, just the first two choices that you mentioned.

I think the point of Brian's question which I also had and which I guess you've answered was did you really mean Automatic and Manual or actually Automatic and Normal. The latter apparently.

The only difference between normal and automatic restore is automatic
selects the target and options. I've tested multiple dir layouts just now,
works fine in either mode. So you'll need to recall the details including
what options chosen, what entered, when the message occurred, etc.. to
determine what the issue was.

Double-clicking, click faster with less movement or try triple-clicking

Done all of that. Been using computers and mice since April 1992 for
at least 6 hours a day minimum, every day. ;-).

I think I will just stick with normal restores.

DrT,

If you use a PS/2 mouse you can double click to open folders in IFL.

A PS/2 mouse works better with IFL "scrot" on my computer.

That is one bit of hardware I do not have in stock. You would think
that if one click works a second one should too. Anyway, I got into
the swing of clicking and pressing enter reasonably quickly.

@ TBU. I would just like to apologise for the tone of my last post.
had a bad day, but that is NO excuse. Sorry!
