Still true? Can't ins BootIt BM on UEFI-ONLY machine?

Post by Ambertus »

I read that it is/was impossible to install BIBM on an UEFI-Only machine, but it seems that that may have been written around 2011, and so I don't know if that's still true. Is it?

This Toshiba Encore 2 WT10-A32M tablet will allow me to disable Secure Boot, but it will NOT allow me to enable CSM or provide any way to boot other than by UEFI.

Are there any workarounds or other alternatives?

Thanks!

As a kludge, perhaps I can use partition-cloning software to clone an already-existing BIBM partition to the Encore 2?

It seems like that would be fairly simple. But then I'd have to know if BIBM will work correctly on an UEFI-Only system. How 'bout that? :?:

Ambertus,

You can use the BIBM Partition Work on an IFL GUI boot disk. It boots with Secure Boot enabled.

I will probably be getting a new AIO computer next week with Win 10.
Does this mean I CAN use IFL to image/restore when GPT and/or UEFI?

Mary,

Sure. You can image/restore with IFL just as easily as with a MBR system. You can use Partition Work in IFL just as easily as with a MBR system. Don't be concerned about using an OS in UEFI mode. Easy!

You can also use IFW and TBWinRE just as easily as with a MBR system.

Thanks for your hopeful reply, Brian, my great and long-admired helper pal! How've ya been?

Do I understand that this approach should work because BIBM is based on Linux? (that last part I knew). But please note that, as you expected, the tablet is running Windows 10, and I want to use BIBM mostly to boot different WinX partitions, and also things like Rufus-built oy YUMI multi-boot USB flash drives. Is IFL still the tool for me?

I know this is asking a lot, but would you be so kind as to provide some additional assistance, like a guide? I don't need a tutorial! I well remember that you much prefer brevity of expression (unlike me, eh?), but I'm afraid I'm at a loss as to how to proceed...

Thanks!!

Ambertus,

While the Partition Work component of BIBM works in a UEFI system, the Boot Manager component doesn't. Unfortunately, you can forget about using BIBM to multi-boot OS in your computer.

I note you have an Atom processor. Does IFL boot in your computer? Some Atom processors don't support Linux.

Windows can resize its own partition as well as others. I know I used
Win 7 on my new Acer laptop to resize C: and create a D: partition.
You don't always need an external program for that.

Mary,

Windows has limitations in how far it can resize a partition smaller. It can't resize smaller than the last "unmovable" file. Partition Work doesn't have this limitation.

I tried to boot a SD card with BIBM on it in Win 10. No joy. I wanted to
change where the last file is located on the Windows partition.
