new computer 64 bit

Post by aln77 »

My old computer had bit the dust and I look like getting a 64 bit computer.

Question: Will my Image for Windows work ok on the 64 bit windows computer or do I need something else?

When you install IFW on your new computer be sure to right
click the executable (exe) and Run as Administrator.

Thanks Mary

I noticed this morning on my info sheet that the new computer will use sata HD.

Is there any special attention to using IFW with sata drives?

I haven't found any differences myself.

Do not be fooled into thinking that you will need to run 64 bit apps
or that they will run better. Sometimes the 32 bit app will be faster.

That is interesting news DrTeeth.

It comes down to the users who think it does and demand the 64 bit apps. If they want to pay for it then I will oblige. :-)

I will be using 32 bit apps for a while though as I do not have any programming skills in 64 bit programming at the moment.

Must get an image of the system first up in case . . . and thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.

How true

I use Powerarchiver, and they ran tests that showed either NO advatage
to a native 64 bit version or that it was slower. They will be
releasing a 64-bit version as your average Joe will demand one. 32 bit
apps can also run faster in a 64 bit environment than a native 32 bit
one.

Sometimes it is because a 32 bit app will not run at all on
a 64 bit system and they need to make changes anyway to
bring it up to 64 bit capability.
