Hi,
Now that I got the Win10 moved to, and booting from, the SSD in my Dell M7510, I want to setup Windows 7 as a dual boot.
Using BIBM, I created a 50GB partition on the SSD and a Boot item with only that partition. Then, I had the Win7 DVD in an external USB DVD drive and I booted. When I get to the BIBM boot menu, I selected the (as yet uninstalled) Win7 partition, and it said there nothing to boot on that partition (correct) and says something about press a key to load manager. I press a key and it says it needs a driver and then I get stuck there.
I'm not sure but I think that it might be looking for a driver for the USB drive?
So can anyone tell me how I should be doing this installation?
Thanks,
Jim
How to install Win 7 for dual boot (on new PC) using BIBM?
Re: How to install Win 7 for dual boot (on new PC) using BIB
The thing that is puzzling is that I can get the machine to boot the Win7 install DVD but then when I click "install" it pops up with a window saying it needs a driver, and that is really where I finally get stuck. Sorry if I didn't explain clearly before.

Jim,
When you see that message press Ctrl-Alt-Del and boot your DVD.

Jim,

Hi Brian,
I probably didn't explain clearly. What happens is that it does start reading the Win7 install DVD and even puts up the Windows-style installation screen and lets me select language, but then whan I click "Install Now", it pops up with an error saying it needs a driver for the DVD.
Googling, it seems like this may be a problem with media being bad or maybe Windows installation DVD doesn't have a driver for the USB DVD drive I have.
So, I'm using the Windows USB Tool to make a bootable USB stick from the Windows 7 DVD and will try to install using that USB stick. I'll report back.
Thanks,
Jim

Jim,
Are you installing the OS to HD0 and not the SSD? You plan to move it to the SSD later?

Hi,
I am trying to install Win7 to the 50GB partition on the SSD.
FYI, the Windows USB Tool thing didn't worked. I was able to make the USB stick, but when I used that instead of the USB DVD drive, exactly the same thing happened. It asks for a driver ...

If you're using USB3 or a RAID controller that Win7 doesn't have native
support for, you'll need to add a driver (f6) when booting in to setup.
For USB3, just switch over to a USB2 port.

According to this:

the M7510s have ONLY USB 3.0 ports ...
Do you know where I'd get a driver from for that?
