Restore fails to see CD/DVD

Post by shaboski »

Hi,

I am at a loss here. I am trying to resore a full image of C:\ taken before my PC crashed yesterday. When I boot from the imaged disk(s) I get an error message saying "CD/DVD device 0 not found". I installed a fresh copy of Win7 64bit and tried the GUI approach. It fails to inititalze the Phylock on the C:\. The settings allow to override the Phylock, but that won't work either. I need to restore to the original OS, as this was taken from a legit copy of windows on my new PC. The current Win7 I am runing is not legit.

Any help is much appreciated

Did you create the image directly on CD or DVD and are now booting said CD or DVD to restore?

I've had trouble doing that. Don't remember exact details, but have been able to boot IFD from CD and use it to restore from the image on the bootable discs.

Thanks for the reply. Yes. I created images on DVD. I Have restored them multiple times for many years. This time it won't see the MBR and hence no device is present. I have rebuilt the MBR with Easy BCD2.1.2, to no avail. I am in recovery mode attempting to rebuild the boot.ini file and try again. I will have to order IFD and try your suggestion, if this won't work

If you are running on the same hardware you can reactivate. If you
have a retail version and installing on new hardware you can also
reactivate. The legitimacy of the Windows install is not a problem.

If you're using IFD, the CD/DVD has to be on AHCI or nomal type controller,
not RAID. For that use Image for Linux boot disk (or use a USB or other
external drive).

--There can't be anything wrong with CD/DVD drives as I have reinstalled a fresh copy of WIN7 from it. This drive was once encrypted with TC, but since decrypted months ago, if this helps
