My defragger does that by default do I have turned it off. FWIW,
PerfectDisk is the only defragger I have come across that uses the
prefetch information to re-order those referenced files. All the
others seem to ignore it and adversely affect performance. If I am
wrong, I would be interested to hear.

MyDefrag also can use the prefetch information (as above), depending on the
type of defragmenting specified in the MyDefrag script. Although no longer
being developed it is still an excellent defragger and can be found on the
web (latest version is 4.3.1).

Hi Tom,

I'll check that one out. PerfectDisk is officially being developed,
but the last few versions have been just money-grabbing exercises
IMHO.

Hi Dr T,

MyDefrag is an unusual defragger, as it is driven by a scripting
language. However the author has included default scripts in the
package to perform routine tasks, from simple defrags to completely
optimising a disk.

Sadly, the author of MyDefrag no longer has a web site for this
software, but the 'wayback machine' has a copy of the MyDefrag web
site, complete with the downloadable product (including full
documentation) here:-
http://web.archive.org/web/201509090301 ... efrag.com/

Did I mention that it is free?

I use MyDefrag on my systems here (all running Windows 10) without
problems, and have included it in my backup scripts for Terabyte IFW
imaging software, link http://bit.ly/2xTuLyw
