SLOW boot

Post by mjnelson99 »

I have a 3 year old Acer laptop that just booted so slowly, even before
Windows tried to start.

The Acer splash screen was on for what I would say was a minimum of 30
seconds. The rest of the bootup was slow as well.

Not sure if this computer may be close to hardware problems?
Any comments?

Thanks
Mary

Is anything connected that might be causing delays? Waiting for a USB drive to spin up or a device timeout? If the laptop was in hybrid sleep and failed to wake up normally it can take longer than a cold boot for some systems. Otherwise, it might be hard drive issues -- errors could be causing retries or it might have dropped to a slower connection speed.

If it doesn't do it every time it's probably nothing to worry about. Still be good to have a current backup for it if it's important.

You could check the Windows Event Viewer for any logged issues.

I did change the boot sequence to put the Win HD first. I can manually
choose to change boot sequence manually if I wish to boot others.

It took at least a minute to even get where I could change that setting
in the BIOS.

I guess the 2 USB hard drives I have attached are messing with the boot
although it was faster afterward I changed boot sequence. I did not pay
attention yesterday to how long boot took so not sure if it was present
then.

Thanks

I just tested getting to the bios to change settings on my newer laptop.
It has the same USB hard drives attached that may have slowed down the
older laptop. It took very few seconds to get to that screen.

It seems like the older laptop may be getting near to quitting. Even the
extended warranty is gone on it. Fortunately, the hard drive, memory,
battery, keyboard and probably the DVD can all function in my newer laptop.
