Win 7 messing with dates on copied files

Post by mjnelson99 »

I have 2 USB 2 hubs that have 3 and 4 ports each.

Windows is using the same drive designation on both and when I change
the flash drive to a different one, the drive designations also changes.

If there is overlap, Windows dates the copied files way off from what it
should.

For example, one would be 12/7/14 and was given the date of 11/14/2014.

Since these are usually backups of my Quicken files it makes it hard to
tell what is the latest backup.

Any suggestions for a workaround will be appreciated.

I have tried changing the drive letter in Control Panel and it keeps
gets changed back to one that conflicts. MS did not make it easy.

P.S. I make a copy of the Quicken file that showed Copy and that date
stayed correct.

Are you looking at the actual modified date for the file (in the file's properties, for example) or just the listing in Explorer? I've had cases where the "Date..." column was not set to "Date Modified" and was instead set to "Date Created" (or possibly "Date") and the date shown was not what I expected.

I use Date Modified in my display.

Windows assigns a drive letter to each flash drive I use. When the drive
is removed that letter has disappeared. This applies to SD cards as well
re drive letter assignment.

When I went into Control Panel and assigned drive letter M to the most
used Flash drive, the date was then correct.
