Why I love system restore

Post by DrTeeth »

I know many hate it and many do not use it when one has excellent
backup programs, but I find it very handy. I just had to use it 30
mins ago.

I backup at least once a week. Restoring a backup is not my first
choice of trying to fix my win 7 x64 install.
1) I should really backup daily (may start to do it after this*)
2) My install is so big restoring would take a long time

So, what happened. I don't know but suddenly, win 7 got BSOD and would
not boot as that would fail with BSOD. Bootup repair did not fix it.

Last backup 7 days ago.

System restore took 5 mins, did not mess with my data and worked. That
is why I like it and use it. Fast and handy (ooer).

*Out of deference to some friends here, I will NOT mention how handy
it would be to be able to tell what type of backup files (incremental
and diff) are which when one has a mixture in a folder

Interesting.
The times I've used system restore it did not work for me so i resorted to other means.
Mind you, that is more than 5years ago. It has likely improved since then.

Would this be the first time you used it to restore?

Thanks,
Bernard

No. I have had to use it several times over the years. It is very
handy if one has a piece of malware autoloading. A system restore will
stop that so that your AV can have an easier time of clearing up the
files themselves.
