Creating an incremental backup in 2.78
Creating an incremental backup in 2.78
The documentation for creating an incremental backup in the manual is about as clear as mud. How does one create an incremental backup as opposed to a differential? Thanks!

Re: Creating an incremental backup in 2.78
Base the incremental backup on a previous changes only backup (or full backup, if starting a chain). For example, if you have FullBackup.tbi and one changes only backup (FullBackup_IncA.tbi) and want to create a new incremental (FullBackup_IncB.tbi), base the new backup on FullBackup_IncA.tbi. When you're starting a new incremental chain, the first incremental backup created would be exactly the same as if you created a differential -- it's just the changes from the base full image.

That makes sense now. And to continue making differentials just keep basing it off of the full backup.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Right. For differentials, base on full image. For incrementals, base on last incremental in chain (normally).

If one has a folder with several backup files in them, how can one
tell which are differentials and which are incrementals?
