Operation Completed with Error Code 7

Post by ifluser7 »

Using default options for Image for Linux 2.76 (GUI). Tried to back up entire hard disk and got the "Operation Completed with Error Code 7" error message. Next tried to back up just the boot partition and got the same thing. Log below. What to do next?

Oh, and I am backing up to a shared folder on a Windows network. Permissions and disk space are there. I saw the back up image file as it was being created and in fact I used the IFL editor to view the log file and then save it over to the same place - no problem.

I see something that might be in play here. I broke out an older Maxtor 300 GB external hard drive when my Black Armor 1T drive from Seagate died. I just noticed that it is formatted as FAT... not even FAT32. I am going to reformat and try again. If I solve my own problem I will return and post here. Maybe somebody else will have an "Error Code 7" problem and need a clue. I can't find any documentation on the meaning of various error codes.

The problem was that the external hard drive had been formatted as FAT -- not sure whether it was FAT16 or FAT32 but that's moot. The boot partition that I was backing up wound up being 12 GB all by itself and neither FAT 16 nor FAT 32 can handle that file size.

A list of Error Codes would have been nice.
