IFD Backups-USB Drive

Post by AlanD »

Trying to set up my friend's IFW install with V2.74. Everything OK,
except when in DOS environment and attempting to run the Backup Option
via CGI (using the restore disc made when installing V2.74).The program
does not recognize his second hard drive (one used to store images)
which is an external USB2 hard drive.

Checking the USB 1.1 (UHCI) option does not help.

Anyone know what I am forgetting to do?

I never run into this with my own installation since my second drive is
internal.

thanks

Alan,

A quick test. Try an IFL boot disk. It will almost certainly see the USB external HD.

Thanks, Brian, I will try, but not before tomorrow, as I have to arrange
to meet neighbor at his house, and then download IFL and create new boot
disk.
Never worked with IFL, so I'll have to learn as I go.

I know this issue must have come up before, but I didn't know how to
search the newsgroup archives to look for subject. Seems like IFD should
be able to accomplish this, but maybe not with every computer (talking
6-YR old Dell here).

Alan,

Use the IFL gui app. I think you will find it easier to use than IFD. I use it for all my restores as it's a little faster than IFW. But strangely, IFW was faster before I upgraded my HDs and installed a SSD.

IFD does have problems with some USB devices.

Alan,
IFL can sometimes access disks that IFD cannot.
Check it out.

I can always depend on TBU folks to set me straight.
Absolutely works fine with IFL, which recognizes Every drive on system.

While I was running test Backup via IFL (GUI), I decided to take some
comparative speed data, to backup my three partitions (single file),
with byte-for-byte verify. Apparent total size (108 MiB as presented by
IFL), and using Enhanced Speed A:

backup to external USB3 HD - 32 min
backup to 2nd internal HD (normally used for IFW backups) - 35.5 min

For reference: my typical backup time (using IFW) to 2nd HD - 28.5 min

and BTW, and after my first venture into IFL, kudos to TBU for very
nice, easy to use GUI.
