Phylock Delays

Post by AlanD »

Has anyone had any experience with long delays waiting for Phylock to do
its thing, that you attribute to Windows Search Indexing?

My observed Phylock delays are now off the chart, compared to normal for
me (30 sec to 1 min, 30 secs), running in excess of 5 minutes. I assume
that one of the recent MS updates modified the indexing service.

If I stop the indexing service, the delays are typically under one minute.

If the drive is being actively used the delay will generally be longer. Are your PhyLock settings at default values? Slightly higher than normal can cause longer delays too (I get close to the 10 minute mark at times on my main drive).

default settings since day one - several years ago

point being, something has changed (for me) regards time to lock drive
from what it always was. Pausing, or disabling indexing service brings
delays back to former levels.

using Sys Internals Process Explorer to examine drive activity, when all
else is quiet with drive, indexing is always running. From that I have
drawn a conclusion. Correct? Don't know, but it works (stopping indexing).

would like to get other takes on use of the windows indexing service,
and is it affecting your Phylock lock time?

Alan,

I have the Indexing Service turned off in all my Windows OS. IFW locks in about 5 seconds.

Firstly, Brian, any issues with Windows Search?

Secondly I found this:

and this follows that:

Pertinent to me since I use CCleaner frequently, and I do keep it updated

Absolutely no difference.

I don't use registry cleaners if that's how you are using CCleaner.

The only thing that delays Phylock for me (Win 7 x64) is having BOINC running in the background. No issues with windows search at all. I image all my partitions from the IfW install in my main Win 7 x64 partition.
