IFL GUI won't reboot but will powerdown
IFL GUI won't reboot but will powerdown
When I have finished using IFL and try to reboot, it just hangs.
Using it from a USB stick.
Trying to save report.txt, but need simple instructions in how to do so to my Win7 partition.
Not a Linux user, just that IFL works whereas IFD doesn't.

After creating report.txt with 'viewreport', you can then run the
command 'savereport' from a terminal window. That will display 3 steps
of instructions for saving report.txt to a drive or partition.
The exact mount command to use depends on which partition is your Win7
partition (first one, second one, etc), so if you have trouble, please
provide a list of partitions on your hard drive (the drive that the Win7
partition is on).
Note that you can list all partitions on all drives by running the
command 'fdisk -l' in the terminal window. That should help you identify
the Win7 partition.

Re: IFL GUI won't reboot but will powerdown
You can also run 'dpmount' to help mount for you. For example, if you mount
your Windows partition as /mnt then you'd just copy the file "cp" to "/mnt"
...
cp report.txt /mnt
then do
umount /mnt
and then
reboot or poweroff

Re: IFL GUI won't reboot but will powerdown
Thanks very much Tom.
Finally, some progress.
I managed to mount the Win7 partition, a SSD, however, the report.txt saved to the USB stick which it wouldn't do before for some reason.
Anyway, I didn't even try to backup or restore, but chose to reboot and the system hung from there!
Read report.txt at http://members.iinet.net.au/~caleula/Terabyte%20IFL/
Is the report.txt file of any use in debugging why I can't reboot and, no, I don't want to powerdown as an alternative, although IFL does that okay.
Don't have any problems on the other computer, Dell Precision 390 with SSD. The problem one is a Dell Optiplex 760 SFF with SSD.
I'm using a wireless USB mouse, a wired PS2 > USB keyboard and all through a KVM switch.
Annoyingly, I have used something like 20 versions of IFD, IFL and IFW over the years without this niggling problem.
The reason I use IFL and not IFD is that firstly IFD doesn't recognise the mouse and secondly the partition descriptions aren't as informative as with IFL. It does reboot though

Re: IFL GUI won't reboot but will powerdown
The first thing I'd suggest that you try the latest version (IFL 2.71), and see if the problem still happens with that. According to the report, you are using IFL 2.69, and I see a "segfault" line in the kernel messages that was fixed in the IFL 2.71 release. We hadn't seen it cause reboot problems, but potentially it might on some systems. If you still have this problem with IFL GUI 2.71, please create another report.txt from that version.
Additional Note: Even with IFL 2.69, this problem most likely would not happen with the IFL GUI network version (according to the report, you are using the non-network version).

Re: IFL GUI won't reboot but will powerdown
I had tried IFL 2.71 previously and that's when I first noticed the problem.
So, I tried going back a few versions. IFL CUI 2.57 seemed to work from memory - I'm trying so many things at present. No GUI of course.
Now having problems saving report.txt which I managed before and have clobbered two partitions in the process, but nothing that can't be repaired easily.
How do I save report.txt to a Win7 partition or even a USB stick?
I can see it there until I reboot again and it's gone.
Even tried saving to every partition and unmounting them afterwards.
Remembering now why I don't like Linux so much and particularly UNIX from about 30+ years ago

Re: IFL GUI won't reboot but will powerdown
Okay. Much tearing out of hair.
Is there a simple way to save report.txt to the USB stick I'm running IFL from?
It seems to be there until I try reading it under Win7.
Also, any way to lock in "File (Direct)" as I always use this option.
Just tried IFL CUI 2.71 and it seems to work, however, it clobbered my Win7 screen resolution.

To get report.txt on your USB stick:
1. Determine the Linux designation for your USB stick. To do that, run
the command 'listhw' to display your drives. You should see something
similar to below (this was taken from your previous report.txt):
Optical drives (srx):
sr0: PLDS DVD+-RW DS-8A3S (fw rev = HD11)
Removable drives (sdx):
sdc: 961 MiB General USB Flash Disk
Fixed hard drives (sdx):
sda: 298 GiB ATA ST3320620AS
sdb: 57241 MiB ATA OCZ-VERTEX2
sdd: 596 GiB SAMSUNG HM641JI
Look under "Removable drives". Your USB stick should be listed. In
the above example, it is "sdc", so you would use /dev/sdc in the mount
command in step 2. But be aware that _it may be different now_, so be
sure to run 'listhw' from the running IFL boot disk to determine the
correct Linux drive designation.
2. Mount the USB stick with the following command, using the drive
designation you determined in step 1. For the above example, you would
use this command:
mount /dev/sdc /mnt
3. Copy report.txt to the USB stick with this command
cp report.txt /mnt
4. Unmount the USB stick:
umount /mnt
From Windows, you will see report.txt in the root directory of the USB
stick.

Re: IFL GUI won't reboot but will powerdown
Thanks Tom.
It was my eyes, even though I have computer glasses and a 23" monitor.
"umount" works a heap better that "unmount" I discovered.
New report at http://members.iinet.net.au/~caleula/Terabyte%20IFL/
IFL GUI 2.71 [think it's the Network version] is currently being thrashed on computer #2
I tried a reboot at the initial screen and it worked, but took some seconds versus right away on computer #1
Will try a reboot after I do some images.
Computer #1 Core2 Quad 2.4Ghz
Computer #2 Core2 Duo 3.0Ghz
Both have a secondary SATA controller card and SSD for drive C
_________________________________________________________________________
Still wondering is there any way to lock in "File (Direct)" as I always use this option?

Re: IFL GUI won't reboot but will powerdown
Okay. I managed to reboot. Took some seconds.
Think it might be due to PCI-e SATA controller for all partitions other than C.
Other computer has a PCI e-SATA controller which obviously doesn't effect the internal partitions.
