Restore without deleting data partition

Post by Willams_Nunes »

I have a hard drive that has a data partition and I have a Windows backup. Whenever I go to restore the program that informs that it will delete the data partition. How to restore without deleting data partition?

It's going to restore the partition as it was when backed up. If you just need a couple files, you use tbiview, tbimount or tbihid.

Or you resize your data partition (you reduce its size to have an enough empty space after it), then you restore to that new free space area.

That is exactly my situation. I have 200GB of free space before the data partition, as my system backup is less than the available free space, if I restore, will the program restore without deleting my data partition?

Thankful for the help.

Make sure you're selecting to perform a Normal restore (in this case, you wouldn't want to use the Automatic option) and select only the partition you want to restore. For example, if your system backup is the entire drive and that's what you're trying to restore then it would have to delete the data partition. Next, when selecting the destination for the restore, you would select the 200GB "Free Space" area located before the data partition.

Note that if the program warns it will delete one or more partitions as part of the restore operation and that's not what you want (or is unexpected), don't continue. Go back through the steps and make sure you're selecting things correctly.

If you want to restore more than one partition, you will have to restore them one by one, indicating each time there target size. IFW can resize them (if the target sizes are not too small, but it will indicates).
When you restore the main system partition, don't forget to enable the "update boot partition" item.

I restored my backup (Windows 10 in uefi mode) and the program did not display any alerts and my data partition remained intact. Before you explained about the normal and automatic mode, I understood everything. Before I was using the automatic mode and the program warned that I was going to delete my data partition, in normal mode, this did not happen. Thanks for the help and for answering my questions
