IFW reinstall appears stuck in sector-by-sector mode
Ten year plus user. Usually stick to basic imaging & restoring. I just purchased new laptop (Win 10 Pro and 1TB SSD) and moving all apps to it. Less than 10 GB of data is currently on laptop internal drive. When I reinstalled IFW 3.41 I selected "Traditional" mode install. All looked normal. When I did my first image to my external USB drive, the "estimated time" is something like 892 hours. I'm guessing it is trying to do a sector-by-sector image (i.e. backing up unused space) instead of imaging only the used data space. As such, I don't have that much room on my target drive (or 892 hours to waste) so I just cancelled the operation. The manual notes the selection box for imaging unused space is under "Settings" but I don't see it to try and disable it. I've done an uninstall-reinstall several times and and can't see what I'm doing wrong. Any suggestions?

engineerguy3809,
Do you have Bitlocker on the drive?

Thanks for quick reply.
I forgot about that but I went back and checked. It is currently OFF and I've never enabled it.

I also just compared EVERY checkbox and entry under "settings" tab on my old computer and new laptop.
Every setting IFW is identical on both.

In my IFW, "Backup Unused Sectors" is the second last Backup Option. You have to scroll down to see it.

Re: IFW reinstall appears stuck in sector-by-sector mode
My issue appears solved.
Apparently, the USB port on my external backup drive has gone bad (or running at sub-USB 1.0 speeds).
I suspected it was doing a sector-by-sector image because the estimated time to complete was so insanely long.
I tried an alternate external USB hard drive plugged into the same laptop port and the estimated time to complete with the alternate external drive is currently showing 12 minutes (as compared to hundreds of hours).
I didn't suspect that because my original drive appears to work adequately when only copying a few dozen files around.
Sorry for the unnecessary post.
It wasn't an IFW issue at all.
Moral . . . . . don't overlook the obvious.
