IFL without a Boot Disk results in Invalid or corrupt kernel

When trying to run IFL following the howto (https://www.terabyteunlimited.com/howto ... otfile.htm) after the reboot and when booting into Linux the message “Invalid or corrupt kernel image” is shown. I have observed this on a Win7 x64 machine and a Win7 x86 VM with IFW v3.33 with IFL and TBOSDT installed together with IFW. Can I solve this myself (if so: how?) or is there indeed an error somewhere? I have been able to sucessfully create an IFL iso using makedisk in the IFL folder of IFW.

The drive file provided is not large enough. That will be updated. Let
you know when available.

The update allowing the larger file sizes is now available via the same
download link of the original.

I downloaded the file and followed instructions. When I ran setupifl.bat I saw...

Access is denied
0 file(s) copied
Access is denied
0 file(s) copied

No permission? You can add a pause at the end of the .bat file.

Those copies are from within windows itself. If doing it from program
files, run elevated.

I used C:\Program Files (x86)\TeraByte Drive Image Backup and Restore Suite\TeraByte OSD Tool Suite Pro\iflsetup

I ran setupifl.bat as an Administrator. I saw a list of files needed and after pressing "any key" I saw...

Could Not Find C:\WINDOWS\system32\iflnet.iso
Press any key to continue . . .

I just ran ...

@echo off
takeown /f "C:\Program Files (x86)\TeraByte Drive Image Backup and Restore Suite\TeraByte OSD Tool Suite Pro\iflsetup" /r
icacls "C:\Program Files (x86)\TeraByte Drive Image Backup and Restore Suite\TeraByte OSD Tool Suite Pro\iflsetup" /grant users:F /t
pause

All OK. It works now. Thanks for mentioning Permissions,

Not so good. IFL boots and gets to the last screen where you see "Starting network (20 sec timeout)...

Then it freezes on a black screen with a fixed cursor at to top left corner of the monitor.

Thanks Terabyte for the quick response and also thanks to Brian for getting involved. I can confirm most of your observations.

After running setupifl.bat as an Administrator I also saw the list of files needed and after that:
Could Not Find C:\WINDOWS\system32\iflnet.iso
Press any key to continue . . .

However your commands
takeown /f "C:\Program Files (x86)\TeraByte Drive Image Backup and Restore Suite\TeraByte OSD Tool Suite Pro\iflsetup" /r
icacls "C:\Program Files (x86)\TeraByte Drive Image Backup and Restore Suite\TeraByte OSD Tool Suite Pro\iflsetup" /grant users:F /t
did not solve this.

I am using Directory Opus as my file explorer and if I use the Administrator button to run it with administrator rights and then start setupifl.bat with administrator rights then the Could Not Find C:\WINDOWS\system32\iflnet.iso message does not appear and everything seems to work as expected. However after a reboot IFL also hangs on a frozen black screen with a fixed cursor at the top left corner.

I do not know what exactly happens when I start iflsetup.bat while running my file explorer with administrator rights, nor what the takeown etc. commands exactly do. However it seems to need some attention, because the way it is described in the how-to does not work. Also, please do include in the (otherwise excellent) how-to that one has to run iflsetup.bat with administrator rights if it is located in the Program Files folder. I did not know that before, and I spent a bit of time finding that out (which I did before I originally posted the Invalid or corrupt kernel issue).

For the black screen with cursor issue, try using the frame buffer mode. When it boots to the screen where you select the video mode, type in 1fb or 2fb, for example (by default it automatically continues from the screen after a few seconds if no input).

You can also use the IFL x86/686 files instead if that version works on the system. Download the 686 version and unzip the files to a folder. Then edit the setupifl.bat file to use that folder. For example, if you extracted the files to C:\tbosdt_pro\ifl_en_gui:

---setupifl.bat file section---

::
:: IFLDIR defines the path where the IFL ISO file defined by the IFLFILE
:: parameter above can be found. The default value below is the default path
:: when the IFW/IFD/IFL package is installed on 32-bit Windows.
::

set IFLDIR="C:\tbosdt_pro\ifl_en_gui"
