From the log it doesn't appear that WinRE is enabled. That's odd if you just updated to 1903 (Windows enables it by default). Did you disable WinRE manually after the install?

It's not clear if you tried creating the TBWinRE build from a normal folder instead of from the installed location. You mention uninstalling and reinstalling which sounds like you've only tried the installed location (as indicated by the error in your previous post).

Please try from a normal user folder and see if it works. For example:

1. Use Windows Explorer and browse to the C: drive. You can use a different drive if you want, just remember to adjust the instructions as necessary (e.g. you might use D:\TBWinRE).

2. Make a new folder named "TBWinRE"

3. Download the tbwinre.zip file from here: http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/downlo ... bwinre.zip

4. Unzip the file to the C:\TBWinRE folder

5. Browse to the C:\TBWinRE folder and run TBWinPE/RE Builder (TBWinPE.exe)

If it still errors, please send the log for the attempt. Also, it may be helpful to see the DISM log (located at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log). Since the dism.log file may be quite large, it would probably be best to copy out all the entries for the attempt (they are date/time stamped) and send just those entries. If you don't want to post the logs here you can email them to TeraByte Support (you can zip the logs and attach them to the email).

I have indeed tried a normal folder, multiple times (including tonight) and got the same error.

I will try once again, but I am getting extremely frustrated.

I didn't disable WinRE. Not sure how that's even done.

While I'm sure it would be desirable to solve this problem which I know nothing about, the statement "I am without the ability to restore" is made above.

Couldn't IFW (or IFD) be used to restore? Or does Bitlocker, which I know almost nothing about, prevent that?

I keep being told to try the same thing over and over. It does not work. I've updated my OS, I've uninstalled/reinstalled, I've tried everything asked, and nothing works.

This is basic stuff and yet it does not work. I need to move on. I need a solution that WORKS.

I think I give up.

Yes, IFD/IFL/IFW can be used. The TBWinRE boot media could be created on another Windows 10 system, for example. If VSS was used to create the backup in Windows then restoring would require enabling BitLocker afterwards if the destination partition wasn't unlocked (which would always be the case restoring with IFD/IFL). If the backup was created with PHYLock or outside Windows and is of the entire encrypted partition, that could also be restored. Since that type of backup can be very large it's usually recommended to use VSS and just back up used space.

The errors you're getting are not common and seem to indicate there is either something on the system that is interfering with DISM mounting the WIM file (making it unavailable or making changes in the mount folder) or the mount folder isn't empty. Since you're trying to create the build from a completely new folder the mount folder should be empty. The DISM log may shed some light on the issue, but it was not provided. It's possible DISM isn't working properly on the system. If that's the case then it's not going to work via Builder or the TBWinRE.cmd script either.

If the system is using an MBR disk then WinRE may be disabled due to not being able to create a new partition for it (it can't be on the BitLocker partition). It's normally on the System Reserved partition or on its own partition. If the disk is GPT then creating a new partition isn't usually an issue. Not sure what the case is here.

Have you tried creating the TBWinRE build on another Windows 10 system (assuming one is available)?

Another option that has not been considered yet is to use TBWinPE. Although
there is a large download to be done first, this only has to be done once,
and I have found that PE generates faster and loads faster than RE.

You could try IFL. That should work. See the bottom of...
