tbiview for linux, debian 9, xfce - does nothing

Post by shawn181 »

I downloaded tbiview_en_linux.zip; extracted it to /opt/bin/terabyteunlimited/; did chmod +x tbiview; cd to folder; $ ./tbiview; but nothing seems to happen. No log entries, no running process, no GUI interface. What am I missing?

Shawn,

./tbiview works for me. You probably need 32-bit libraries...

Brian,
Thank You very much for the quick answer!

TerabyteUnlimited: when do you suppose 64bit versions of Linux tbiview and tbimount will be available?
Seems a bit overdue, since nearly everyone has moved off of 32bit OS's.

I'm less than excited about adding 32bit support to Debian Stretch, just for tbiview/tbimount.
I have a Windows VM that has these tools, but I was hoping to migrate my IFL backup files to something other than NTFS.

Thanks,
Shawn

I agree, I am still waiting for a 64-bit build of tbiview - this is getting silly.

I see v3.42 was just released. :)
Anyone know if TBIView / TBIMount for Linux have been updated?
Issue is neither worked on 64bit Linux unless we also install 32 bit libraries.

you need the 32 bit libraries, just like windows has automatically installed and handles. There is no downside to installing except the small amount of disk space it would take, but with them, you can run any of the 32bit apps.

downside: there is also the additional attack surface offered by 32 bit libraries.
In four years running Linux as my primary desktop OS, TBIview is the one and only application I am not installing because it has not yet been updated.
I'm not adding 32 bit support for one program that I use a few times per year.
If not for the uproar from Steam users, Canonical would have dropped 32 bit support last year.
To quote Canonical:
"The heart of the issue is that 32-bit computing represents an incredibly wide attack surface, with lessening amounts of active maintenance to discover, analyze, and patch flaws and exploits."
