Booting/using IFL from a notebook with limited I/O

I would like to try IFL as a way to back up the two Lenovo Yoga Miix 410 notebooks my daughters have. On each of them, there is only one USB Type-A (looks like usb 2.0) and a USB type-C port. So I'm wondering how IFL loads itself. Does it load itself entirely into memory and if so, once I'm into the IFL main screen can I then unplug the IFL usb boot pendrive and plug in my USB external HDD?

If not, I suppose I will have to find a Type-A to Type-C USB adaptor in order to plug my external drive into that port? Thank you.

You can unplug the IFL UFD after it's booted.

Yeah that worked. Had to go into the laptop's BIOS and disable secure boot, fast boot, and then change to Legacy Bios but yeah, that worked. Thank you.
