Trim for SSD on XP, and defragmenting SSD's before imaging

Post by jaybird »

Hi,

Here's one I've tried web searches to answer, but so far nothing. I just
installed a Crucial 64GB SSD on my XP machine. I know XP doesn't natively
support Trim. But are there any utilities to look at the NTFS, find out
which blocks are free, and trim those blocks?

Also, would it be okay to defragment my SSD just before imaging it with IFL,
so that if I ever need to restore to a traditional drive it won't be
fragmented all over the place?
Thanks.
Jayson

Hi,
I use SSD Tweaker for my OCZ Vertex3 SSD on Win7. 64bit. I see it is also available for Win XP http://www.elpamsoft.com/Default.aspx. To defrag, I use Perfectdisk's SSD Optimize. Never had any problems with any of them.
