PHYLock vs VSS

What disk-locking method do you all use and why?

I have always used PHYLock on the basis that it just has to be better
and more robust than VSS as it was programmed by TBU.

I was worried a while back when I installed image to see that VSS was
the default and not PHYLock.

So which is better? I am after reliability and not that interested in
smaller images, unless the saving is significant.

I used to use Phylock but recently switched to VSS due to Phylock being
unable to lock the disk within the default 10 mins. Seemed to only
happen when the backup occurred after the computer was woken from sleep
but it was consistent. No issues with VSS so far.

I used PHYLock until three months ago. IFW was slow in my new computer. It took three times longer to create an image than I expected. No problem with IFL. I changed to VSS and image creation time with IFW became normal. With VSS Settings, I have removed the tick from the 2 Exclude boxes. Now the log entry isn't a "metre" long.

Image file size with VSS is much the same as with PHYLock. I've changed to VSS on my computers that didn't have the slow IFW backup time. It's nice to not wait for PHYLock to lock the drive.

PHYLock is working fine here. I have more faith in TBU's PHYLock than
MSoft's VSS. Locking time here is 10-15 secs max.

I recently had a strange issue with PHYLock taking ages to lock. There
was nothing writing to the disk. The issue was down to a keyboard
driver, specifically a v3 version for my Corsair keyboard. v2 was
fine.

I use PHYLock. I've had the occasional issue of not obtaining a lock. Most of the time it's OK.

I guess I just don't understand VSS, but it seems odd that by default it doesn't back up certain things. (At least I think that's the case).
