Image Size Increase after Upgrading to 3.22

Post by wblhornet »

Hello Forum,

i've a problem after upgrading from Version 3.21 to 3.22:
The Image of my Backup is extremely large after upgrading.
The Imagesize with Version 3.21 ist around 70GBytes.
The Imagesize with Version 3.22 ist around 160GBytes.

Both Images are a full Backup.
I'm using VSS and all Harddisks are encrypted with Bitlocker.
This is the command Line for the Backup:
imagew64.exe /b /uy /d:w0 /f:"f:\Backup Images\Stefan\WingZero" /logfile:"f:\Backup Images\Stefan\WingZero.txt" /v /hash:0

Is this a Bug or is my command Line wrong?

Best Regards

Hi, I am encountering the same issue after upgrading to v3.22. I will copy/paste my post from Wilderssecurity forum:

I don't know what's going on with this program. I'm using the latest v3.22 and no matter what settings I chose and no matter whether I run a "Full" backup within Windows or from the recovery pen drive, it creates the largest file size possible, resulting in a ~6.5 hour backup! It backed up successfully but the time it took was unacceptable.Attached is my drive layout, and when I chose to backup the C: drive IFW creates a 267 GB backup. I use the defaults Enhanced Speed-A compression and maximum file size options, plus Validate. If I don't chose Validate the backup would take just over 3 hours. Still way longer than it should take.

I've selected both Faster changes only backups and Metadata Hash files., and I also tried one or the other of these latter options, and finally neither of them, but it still results in a 267 GB backup. Even when I tried to run a Changes only backup it still wants to create a 267 GB file size with predicted time remaining of 6.5 hours. I've suspended Bitlocker then booted into the RE pen drive and it still shows the full partition size. The partition is showing 0% fragmentation, I ran sfcscannow, chkdsk c: /f/r and no problems to speak of. The laptop is a practically brand new Lenovo E580, 4GB RAM, running Windows 10 Pro. I'm completely out of ideas.

The partition is Bitlocker encrypted. Thanks for any help that can be provided.

Another member in the Wilders security forum has noticed very large backups since upgrading to IFW 3.22. FWIW, my backups are fine.

regression is confirmed, will release a update later since it only
affects IFW.

Just curious. Why are people using Wilders security forum for this?

Thank you @Terrabyte Support. I can confirm v3.22a works as expected, after I ran a full backup and validation in about 32 minutes. File size is 15.9 GB from 31.2 GB space used on my 256 GB Windows 10 partition.

EDIT

sorry to have to report this, but the excessive large file size occurs when using the RE Flash drive. I re-created the RE Flash drive using v3.22a.

It is the Recovery Environment using the IFW Recovery Boot Disk.
