Imaging times

Post by DrTeeth »

At what stage into an imaging can one regard the estimated time as
being accurate? Since adding my last OS, the estimated times have shot
up from about 2 hours to well over 13 at the start. They do come down
quite rapidly, but the change has been stark and clear.

Are these backups to the same drive as your other thread? Drive errors/issues can cause excessive delays in processing and throw things off.

Anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes is usually enough to be fairly accurate. However, the type of backup (full vs. changes only), options used (validation, hash, etc.), along with the compression of the data being backed up can make some vary greatly during the backup making the estimated time off. In those cases, I usually go by the normal pattern. For example, if I know the backup only takes 30 minutes and it estimates 2 hours at the start, it's going normally.

Issue was sorted by creating a new full backup. Sorry, I should have
said earlier. Will post to that thread now.

Everything is a constant. I have just had a look at the log file and
the actual times have not changed much. I was just initially concerned
as the initial estimate had taken such a leap.
