Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRCs)

Post by DrTeeth »

Hi,

I have started to get CRC errors which prevent my copying an
incremental backup file to any other location.

I can mount the backup as a drive letter.

Any ideas as to what is going on? All disks pass a chkdsk /f.

Sounds like a hard drive or cable problem. When you get the write or read
error, choose to ignore it instead of canceling, don't bother with
validation because it will most likely fail.

A backup with validation completed successfully last night. PC currently running Seadate Sea Tools for DOS. Failed short test, long test currently running. Will also see what Spinrite can do if Seagate cannot fix the drive.
A spare hard drive has been ordered for delivery today for stock in case needed.

Hi,

Nothing at all seemed to "fix" the faulty drive. Not the Seagate
utilities, nothing.

I cleared the drive and did a full (i.e.not a quick one) format which
checks the clusters. So far, the drive is working perfectly.

I have ordered a hybrid drive for my OSs, and that disk will be kept
in stock until it is needed.
