Partition Compaction Failed (56)

I'm trying to compact a drive (1TB HDD) to fit onto a SSD. I've entered several numbers within the range it allows, and no matter what I enter, this is the same error I get each time:

"Partition Compaction Failed (56)".

I've tried with both Image for Windows and Image for Linux, and both fail with the same error (it doesn't even start, it just outright fails). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Retrospek,

Run chkdsk /f on the partition and then try Compaction.

Will give that a shot, thank you. I wasn't even thinking that it might be a corrupt table or file(s), but that makes complete sense.

Uggh, now running into another issue, when trying to downsize to the smaller drive, it's resizing the wrong partition, and failing. I wished there was a way you could specify which partition(s) you want to resize on a drive.

For whatever reason, this drive has 6 different partitions (normal windows master partition, windows OS partition, a recovery partition, and 3 others), it's trying to resize the non-windows OS partition and failing.

chkdsk /f all the partitions to ensure they are clean, then all should
resize.

It will resize all the larger ones, if you want control, you'd restore one
at a time, the update boot partition should be on for all. Set active only
for the boot partition.
