Just so it's clear, the changes to TBWinRE in WinRE (when you have updated the installed WinRE) only affect that instance when changed/disabled by a Windows update/upgrade. If you have created TBWinRE boot media (CD, UFD, etc.) or are booting from a TBWinRE WIM it wouldn't affect those (though you would probably want to eventually update to the newer WinRE version). So, the boot media is the same as IFL in that regard -- it won't change after being created unless you change it.

There are restrictions on the trial versions (some features are missing or not supported, for example), but you can create customized boot media versions.

The IFL boot media supports booting UEFI with Secure Boot. You don't need to do anything specific to enable it. Do try it on the system, though, and make sure it boots okay in case any normal boot/layout settings may need adjusted.

The "restore disc" mentioned in the manual usually refers to the disc that would be created if you save your backup image directly to CD/DVD/BD. The first disc is the "restore disc" and can be booted. There are separate options for the restore disc and the boot media when you create customized boot media.

Thanks. I have now created an IFL 2.99 bootable USB stick and tried it on my desktop PC although this is set up in legacy mode. It created an image of my linux partition and I restored it overwriting the existing partition. I had also created an image using my own BIBM in case it caused problems, but everything appeared ok. The file sizes of the 2 images were a little different, but I had selected some ini options for IFL and also I am using IFD 3.06a so I expected some differences. I used his key (although I have my own anyway). It will be a few days before I get to try it on my friends PC. If it works ok I'll burn a CD.

IFL works well on my friends laptop. I have burned a CD for him to use. I feel this is the best method compared to one which requires Windows components as it should still work without the user needing any technical knowledge even if Microsoft keep changing the systems. I have written a guide to backup and to restore for him to follow and the final stage is for him to sit down and run it from the guides without my help. He's seen it in action so I don't expect him to have any problems.
