Select Drive Or Partition To Restore???

I have been trying to restore a partition I had imaged a couple of weeks ago.
IFW 3.06a. Using a PE Disk.

When I get to the screen where it says "Select Where Backup File is Located" I go and find it then click next. The next screen title is "Select Drive or Partition To Restore". ?? The thing is the drive shown is the one I want to restore my original image to. However, this drive (0)only shows one partition instead of 4 and the one partition it does show is of another image from the drive (0). And of course this 'partition' isn't what I want to restore but it is the only choice I have so I click next and now both drives show up (0), and my backup drive where I store my images. Then I select the partition to restore the image to and am told there is not enough room. so I check all the boxes so it will compress the image to fit then hit next and what shows up ready to restore is not the image I first picked but the one in the message box that only shows (0) drive and only one partition. My (0) drive has 4 partitions. I don't remember IFW used to ask me this before I upgraded. Can anyone please help me out? I must have built the PE with the wrong switches but I have no idea what I have done wrong.

Thanks, plain

The image you choose to restore had one partition backed up to it (you're
still selecting what to restore until it ask for where to restore it). If
you ended up using multi-file on the backup then each partition went to its
own set of image files.

If you were using use simple operations, the backups and restores are always
of the entire drive, the files would be listed and you just pick the one you
want.

So "Select Partition to Restore" is there to allow you to choose an individual partition out of an image if that image includes more than one partition, right?

Okay so let me ask this then. To help eliminate my confusion. If I restore a single image to more than one partition on the same drive, can I go into BBM and change that partition's name to something else and then IFW will recognize the change? I think I have tried that before but don't remember whether or not it worked. I am still reading and re-reading the manual to try to get my plan down.

Thanks for your patience. I do this so seldom it is like looking at a completely new mountain every time I start climbing.

Correct. Whether or not the image was of the entire disk or not (a partial) you can select an individual partition to restore. In the case of a single partition image you still need to select it (it would be the only one available).

You can change the volume label after the restore using BIBM, Windows, etc. You can also change the label of a single partition when it's restored by entering the new name on the options screen. Note that which label is displayed in IFW depends on the setting of the "Use Volume Label" option (volume label vs. EMBR label).
