Image for Windows V2 x64 Doesn't Run in Windows 10

Post by TeraByte Support »

The latest Win10 updates prevent Image for Windows V2.x x64 version from
running (most likely due to the protection layer).

The solution is to upgrade to V3. See

Hello. I upgraded to IFW version 3, but now I'm wondering: Can disk images created by IFW version 3 be restored using IFL version 2.99 running off of a bootable flash drive?

"The image file created by this version requires an Image version 3.00 or later to restore."

Thanks for the info.

In the past, I would always use the separate IFL package I had purchased, for creating a bootable drive, but with this version 3 upgrade, I didn't receive a separate IFL zip file, but instead in the IFW installation directory on my hard drive, there are three subdirectories: IFD, IFL, IFU. Each of them contains a makedisk.exe, any one of which I assume I should use in the future for creating bootable USB thumb drives. Are there any reasons why I should choose a particular one of those three over the others, for creating the bootable drive?

I've never done it that way (using the makedisk.exe in those directories) though (without actually completing the process) it looks like it would probably work.

I have no experience with IFU. IFL tends to be faster than IFD (but takes longer to boot).

I use those folders too. Just choose your favourite boot disk, IFL is the fastest and if you have BIBM you can run Partition Work in IFL.

@Brian: Good to know.

@Bob: Is there another way for creating a bootable drive, aside from makedisk.exe? In the IFW GUI, I don't see any option to create a bootable drive, but I could be looking in the wrong places.

A way to create bootable media other than makedisk.exe? Not that I know of. I just never realized it was available where mentioned. Until now, I've selected the options to create the media when installing IFW (TeraByte Drive Image Backup and Restore Suite) which does, in fact, cause execution of makedisk.exe.

If you've bought the whole suite, you can also download IFD and IFL (maybe IFU) independently at https://www.terabyteunlimited.com/product-download.php though there would seldom be a reason to.

Makedisk.exe works so well I have not even looked for something else to
use. I do make sure I have the install code info handy first, though.
Usually I put it in a txt file with IFL.

One laptop computer seems to stay slow in imaging no matter what version
of IFL I am using. I plan to raid one 4 GB memory module from a diff laptop.
