Create bootable Image 4 Dos FIXED disk

Postby iball » Wed Dec 07, 2011 8:40 am

I've been struggling over the last few days at creating a Image For DOS bootable external drive. I've used the tool to successfully create bootable usb flash drives or iso's before, but cannot figure out how to move these files over to a FIXED disk and make it bootable. The "Create Boot Disk" tool provided does not let me choose a normal fixed disk (it only lets you choose removable flash drives).

I have a 1TB external usb drive that I have created a small partition on which I want to use for the Image 4 Dos boot environment. The rest of the space on the drive would be a separate partition for storing my backups as I create them.

I've tried copying (xcopy /s/e/f) the contents of a successfuly created flash drive to my external drive, but it still doesn't boot.

Any thoughts, ideas, or tricks?

I've done this before by imaging the entire flash drive and then restoring it to the hard drive (using default options). If you don't use the scale options it will end up with the small partition (242MB in my case) at the start of the drive and the remainder will be unallocated. I wouldn't use this method on a hard drive that contains data you want to keep since any existing partitions would be deleted. The flash drive was created using MakeDisk (USB Mode = Partition, Geometry = Default).
