Origin of Partition IDs

In the following partial IFW command
/d:w0@0xAB,0xA,0x465,0x4B3
the values 0xAB, 0xA, 0x465 and 0x4Be are called, I think, Partition IDs.
Whatever they are called, my question is: They are created by, and only relevant to, Terabyte software, correct?
