IFD and DisplayPort monitors

I normally use IFD for restores. My monitor uses DisplayPort. It works fine with IFD, except that if I turn the monitor off, I can't get it to work again until I reboot. (The display doesn't come back at all in that case.) For this reason, I normally leave the monitor on for the duration of the restore. I do have logging enabled, but I like being able to see the completion status on screen.

Is there any workaround for this, short of temporarily switching to HDMI or something else? (which I'm not going to do)

I did a restore earlier today. I turned the monitor off when I walked away for lunch. It would not come back on, as expected. When I saw disk activity stop, I was thinking that's no problem, I'll check IFD.LOG, so I hit the reset button and Windows started just fine

Now, hours later, I finally remembered to check IFD.LOG on the thumb drive, and for some reason, it was not updated at all during the restore operation. I have "SaveLog=1" in IFD.INI and that file has not been edited in over 7 months. My best guess is that the log isn't written at all until you dismiss the final dialog (which I didn't do); but that would be surprising to me since it's not a great way to do things.

I'm not redoing all the manual effort I just put into getting everything back, so I guess I just have to hope and assume that the restore didn't throw an error. And I guess I have to go back to leaving the monitor on the whole time during future restores. Good stuff.

it won't write it until it's done. If you use logl 10 or higher it's
written to disk without being cached.

Thank you. Is there a way to fix the monitor wake issue I have, and keep using DisplayPort?

I'd look for an update to any device (adapter or monitor) to see if helps.
There is nothing the program does to turn on/off monitors specifically. I
presume you don't have the BIOS set to sleep the monitor after some time...

Yes, I'm replying to a post after 4 months...

There is no issue with the monitor unless I manually power it off when using IFD. When I do power off the monitor manually in IFD, the issue is that it will not power back on (i.e. it remains in sleep mode). Moving the mouse cursor and/or hitting the Ctrl keys does not wake the monitor.

A workaround is to leave the monitor on during long operations, but I don't like having to do that.

Given that this issue occurs under IFD, there's no adapter/monitor update that can be applied.

So my question is: Why would the mouse/keyboard fail to wake the monitor under IFD, and can anything be done about it?

Scott, I wonder if using IFL would make a difference???

IFD doesn't control the power settings of any system component. In a DOS
like environment, BIOS APM type settings would control it. You could use
IFL under which Linux controls things.

Of course. It seems obvious to me now. Of course it's a BIOS issue. And DisplayPort was only introduced 7 years before the BIOS I'm running was offered, so why would I expect it to be supported? I should have known a 30-year nap would be in order before anything would actually work. "Work" -- what a concept! Seems such a quaint idea.

Yeah, I'm sick of nothing ever working right, if you couldn't tell.
